Michael Whiting was born on October 21, 1946.

Completed his training at UCL in 1967 and worked as podiatric clinician.surgeon at the London Foot Hospital and Royal Surrey County Hospital and then as a lecturer/Senior Lecturer at Manchester Foot Hospital and Northern College of Podiatry until 1978.

Founder Head of Huddersfield Polytechnic School of Podiatry to 1990.

Founder Head of Brighton Polytechnic School of Podiatry (Leaf Hospital) to 1990.

Dean of the Faculty of Health University of Brighton and Professor Health Studies (1992 - 2006).

Non Executive Director, Worthing and Southlands Hospitals NHS Trust (1994 - 1997).
